Robert Spencer

Transplant Type:  Liver

What if you were living on borrowed time

Robert Spencer is fighting for his life. In September 2019, he went to the doctor suffering from back pain.  After routine bloodwork came back with elevated numbers, he was sent to a specialist and diagnosed with nonalcoholic steatohepatits (NASH).  His condition continued to worsen, and now, a little more than a year after his diagnosis, doctors say a liver transplant is critical to his survival.

During such a challenging time, Robert is thankful for his wife of more than thirty-four years, Stephanie.  He is also grateful for their children, Robert II, Timothy and Anna, as well as their seven grandchildren: Charisma, Preston, Gabriella, Elijah, Isaiah, Daisy and Willow.  These new concerns over Robert’s health and the financial considerations have introduced a new stress into their lives but he considers himself blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing and supportive family. Before his health began to decline, he enjoyed spending his free time outdoors.  Some of Robert’s favorite recreational activities include riding his motorcycle, shooting guns,  He has been able to spend many beautiful years with his growing family, but these days, his activities are quite limited. Robert looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to live his life with as few limitations as possible, and to spend many more years making memories with his family- but RIGHT NOW- he needs your help.

*When asked to measure the value of one’s life- how might you respond?  That is an extremely difficult and challenging question that, hopefully, you never have to truly answer.  Unfortunately, Robert is faced with that very reality RIGHT NOW and, unfortunately, his hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $878,000. And that’s only the beginning!  Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications for his body to accept the donor organ.  Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

*You may not have to answer the question regarding the value of a life- but YOU CAN help to save Robert’s by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Robert.  Your contribution will not only provide financial assistance but even more importantly, it will provide HOPE to a hurting family that is crushed by the weight of health crisis and the potential loss of a loved one.  Please pray for Robert and his family as they navigate this season of hard decisions and financial burden and if you are able to give- THANK YOU!  We are beyond blessed for your help in any way!  Love, The Spencers
But NOW, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob. And He who formed you, O Israel: “FEAR NOT, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. YOU ARE MINE.

WHEN YOU PASS THROUGH THE WATERS, I WILL BE WITH YOU. And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned. Nor shall the flame scorch you.”

If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Arkansas Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Robert Spencer” in the memo line.
