NOLA to Angola is an annual solidarity bicycle ride fundraiser that supports the efforts of organizations working to mitigate and reverse the impacts of the U.S. prison system. Biking each mile in solidarity with families who travel long distances to connect with their incarcerated loved ones, the ride educates people about the ways in which mass incarceration works in tandem with other systems of oppression, such as poverty and white supremacy, to harm members of our communities.
All funds raised will go to the Cornerstone Builders’ Bus Project, which provides free monthly transportation from New Orleans and Shreveport for folks to visit loved ones incarcerated in Louisiana prisons.
Why I am riding: Over the past 3 years, I have been fortunate enough to be in community with many impacted by the justice system in Louisiana. Meeting children and adults that were formerly incarcerated as well as some who remain currently incarcerated, and their families has given me a much needed perspective that CHANGE NEEDS TO COME and AWARENESS MUST BE RAISED! As I continue to work on my dissertation on the impacts of juvenile incarceration on mothers in Louisiana, I feel privileged to be in a position to promote awareness about the experiences of those most marginalized in our state, our country, and our world. Please join me in supporting one way that the burden of mass incarceration can be defrayed for loved ones in donating to NOLA to Angola today!
