Rod Moore
Transplant Type: Kidney
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Rod Moore is awaiting a new lease on life. He has been diagnosed with kidney failure. His diagnosis came as quite the shock, as Rod has no family history of kidney disease. His condition has continued to worsen, and now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. For the past two years, Rod has endured regular dialysis treatments, which leave him exhausted and take a toll on his quality of life. Rod must continue these treatments until a kidney is found.
During such a challenging time, Rod is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends, who have provided much needed love and encouragement. While it’s been very hard for Rod and his family, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Before his health began to decline, Rod enjoyed playing sports, being active with his daughter, and spending time with his loved ones, but these days, his activities are quite limited. Rod looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to be free from dialysis and be the active father he longs to be, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Rod’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Rod lives more than 160 miles from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Rod and his caregiver may need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Rod.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Rod Moore” in the memo line.
