$300 goal
I joined the Vermont Workers' Center as a member and volunteer in 2014. I was on Medicaid at the time and it was a lifeline for me-- I relied on it to afford prescriptions and doctor's appointments as I was underemployed and my housing was precarious. Without Medicaid, I don't think I would've been able to start hormone replace therapy when I did.
All across Vermont (like the rest of the country) there are far too many people who are unjustly denied healthcare due to their inability to pay and/or struggle to make ends meet, pay bills, etc due to the exorbitant cost of healthcare. The Vermont Workers' Center organizes poor and working-class communities throughout the state to move away from the egregious profit-based healthcare system we currently have and replace it with Universal Healthcare by getting Act 48* implemented. In order to make this a reality and continue the critical work of organizing, we need funding from folks who believe in our work. This is why I am doing this fundraiser and ask that you please help me reach my goal of $300 by donating if you're able to. No amount is too small (or too large)!
*For those who might not be aware, Act 48 is a publicly-financed Universal Healthcare law that was passed by the Vermont legislature and signed by then-Governor Peter Shumlin in 2011. Shortly after the 2014 midterm elections, Governor Shumlin announced that plans to implement Act 48 were being abandoned, and so the fight continues.
