Help save a community garden from development

After 43 years of organic gardening and building community, The Ballard P-Patch, one of Seattle’s oldest gardens in the P-Patch program, is at imminent risk of losing their garden site to real estate development. The landowner, Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, recently determined that they will sell the property to fund needed life safety upgrades and desired renovations to their building.

It's time to Dig Deep--Cultivate Community. We are lobbying, grant-writing, and hat-passing  to raise the $1.8 million necessary to purchase the half-acre of land where the garden is sited. If not preserved as a garden, the site would be developed into four single-family homes.

Our Redeemer’s has valued their partnership with the garden and its community since 1976, leasing the land for a mere $1 per year to the City of Seattle. Their stated hope is that the community can rally and purchase the land, keeping it a green space in an increasingly dense urban community. But time is short, with construction planned for April, 2020.

Our Ballard P-Patch mascot is a garden gnome. Help me Give the Gnome a Home!

Matching gifts

For my June birthday, I will match donations here, up to a total of $5,000. My donation will be matched by my employer, so giving here is like planting seeds that grow into something nourishing!
