Healthy Options provides 150 families greater access to fresh veggies while supporting local farms.

For the ninth year, Campus Kitchen at Gettysburg College has teamed up with the Adams County Food Policy Council to offer Healthy Options. The initiative provides families experiencing food insecurity, yet not eligible for federal food assistance programs, with the increased ability to purchase healthy, fresh foods.

Last season 150 families participated in the Healthy Options program. Participants received vouchers to purchase foods at the Adams County Farm Fresh Markets and were offered a variety of educational and community building activities.

Through generous donations from 2011 to 2018, Campus Kitchen at Gettysburg College was able to provide over $60,000 worth of monthly vouchers to be used at the Adams County Farm Fresh Markets.

Participants raved that the produce was “fresh,” “really good for our health,” and “excellent,” and one participant said “this program has helped me and my family eat seasonal produce and also enabled me to preserve food for the winter.” Vendors at the farmers markets unanimously and enthusiastically encouraged the continuation of Healthy Options.

With your donation, we will continue to work toward closing this “food gap” and making sure everyone in the community is food secure with healthy and affordable food options. You'll be supporting our local farms and our local economy, too!
