Ellen's "Team Dew" for Pepsi Habitat Build

I first heard about Habitat for Humanity from my friend Laura in Tokyo, Japan. She used to go on builds every summer and she would fundraise by hosting clothing swaps. Laura even got to go on a build with President Jimmy Carter! 

Last year was my first time as a builder vs. donor. It was so much fun! I laid sod around an entire house (and got eaten alive by fire ants!!). After the morning build, we got to hear from the families that were moving into the homes. They were so appreciative of all our support (time and money). Buying a house is not easy and this market has made it prohibitive for many families. Becoming a Habitat Owner requires an application process, donating time on the build and attending classes on becoming a homeowner. It is no small feat!

Hearing from these families (mothers and children) was so touching and inspiring! It was enough to make me want to do it again this year!
