I was out for dinner with a few childhood friends a couple months ago and they mentioned an open spot available on their Mt. Rainer/Climb for a Cause team, I said I’ll take it with without hesitation. And so began the training, it started out easy enough, hike up and down Duluth, over and over again. Then weight was added to my pack, it got harder and harder. Physically and mentally it was torture on me. At times I wanted to quit, my friends helped me through it, at times I guess I helped them too. But every time we were done with a training hike, it was done. Maybe a little soreness, a blister here and there, but I was done until the next time we met. In the end, it’s a piece of cake compared to what some families are going through when their child has something like cancer, or leukemia. I can’t even imagine one of my boys going through that. I’m lucky, most of us are, but some families aren’t so lucky. Fortunately, Footprints of Fight is there to help.
Footprints of Fight is a non-profit 501(c)(3){in process} organization that is dedicated to providing services for the family and patient of pediatric cancer in Washington while going through the treatment process. These services will reduce the family's stress of everyday life through which increased levels of courage, optimism, strength, and resiliency will form to help the family conquer cancer in present and future.
I am very proud of Jake, his family and team of angels for all the work they do for these families. I also hope I can help by raising funds to continue the support Footprints of Fight provides to families during a time in their life that they not only need it, but truly deserve it.
