The work that SABEW does has never been more important. The U.S. is in the worst economic crisis in nearly a century, and our members are at the heart of that coverage. The current news cycle comes after a decade of media industry turmoil, steadily dwindling resources, and layoffs. This is a challenging time for our profession and our organization, and we need your support as SABEW positions itself for long-term sustainability.

More than 55 years ago, SABEW was formed with the goal of promoting superior coverage of business and economic events and issues. The organization trains business journalists, helps them through job changes and layoffs and advocates for access to the public data they need for their coverage.

To ensure that SABEW is able to continue its important work for years to come, we’re launching the Second Century Fund. Monies raised will go into a fund that will guarantee SABEW’s future.

This fund will be used to support the hiring of a development director, the organization’s annual budget and may be used in other ways that sustain SABEW and build for the future. As the fund gains traction, we envision seeking additional contributions through grants, legacy gifts, and planned giving opportunities. We intend to raise $100,000 over the next three years.

SABEW is an organization with momentum. We have more than 3,400 members, including an active Canadian chapter and 67 South Asian journalists who just joined. Our membership includes business reporters and editors from a variety of news outlets, including daily newspapers, wire services, business weeklies and online news operations. These individuals rely on SABEW for help in developing skills, responding to industry headwinds, and navigating their careers.

We offer networking opportunities, a jobs board, and a popular virtual training series that hundreds of business journalists take advantage of each year. The conferences we host give reporters and editors valuable access to newsmakers and skills sessions.

With your support, we can ensure SABEW’s long-term viability and continue to meet the changing needs of business journalists and the industry at large.
