My name is Sami Cubias, and I'm a proud supporter and volunteer for Running for a Better Oakland (RBO). On March 24, 2019, I will run in the Oakland Running Festival. That's over 13 miles of blood*, sweat, and tears, all in support of RBO!

Running for a Better Oakland is a not-for-profit organization that encourages Kindergarten – 12th grade Oakland students to develop healthy lifestyles through running. By building confidence, setting goals, providing training and encouragement, RBO will give students the values for achievement and hard work that they can draw on for all areas of their lives.

Both in 2017 and 2018, I had the pleasure of training for the Oakland Running Festival's Half Marathon race with Carlos and Javier (pictured above). For months, we spent our Saturday mornings running , connecting about everything from school, politics, and family to skating and Dragon Ball Z.  By exercising discipline, trust, and perseverance (and by just plain exercising), we’ve become physically and mentally stronger for challenges ahead.

This season, RBO is training 250+ students from over 50 Oakland public schools to participate in the 2019 Oakland Running Festival on March 24.

Please help me in supporting RBO! Your donations will go toward subsidized race registrations for students, equipment (including our signature blue and yellow RBO t-shirts!), scholarships for graduating high school RBO seniors, trail run field trips and other opportunities for Oakland's K-12 students.

Way to go, RBO!

*Figurative blood. It is my hope to not sustain injuries during the course of my run. I will probably sweat A LOT, and cry a little.
