Running is more than just a sport to me; it's been a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Now, as I lace up my sneakers for the 2024 Riverbank Run 25K, my run has a deeper purpose. I'm running not just for myself, but for a cause close to my heart and our community – the No Surrender Running Club (NSRC).
The Mission of NSRC
NSRC is an inspiring organization that believes in the transformative power of running, especially for the youth of West Michigan. They recognize the numerous barriers that prevent many kids from participating in sports: from the lack of programming in schools, pay-to-play requirements, and limited access to equipment to broader societal issues like systemic distrust and underrepresentation in sports. NSRC's mission is simple yet profound: to empower youth through running, fostering physical and mental health, goal setting, and positive development.
Why I Run
My personal journey with running mirrors the ethos of NSRC. Running has been my mental and physical savior, a constant companion through life's ups and downs. It's never been about speed or accolades; it's about the freedom and sense of accomplishment that comes with every run. This is what I aim to share through my support of NSRC. I want to help dismantle the barriers that keep kids from experiencing this incredible sport. I want to help to create a world where every child has the opportunity to run, to feel that exhilarating sense of freedom.
The Power of Community
What makes running truly special is the sense of community it fosters. This is a core belief at NSRC. By supporting them, we're not just providing access to sports; we're building a community where every young runner feels a sense of belonging, regardless of their background or abilities. We're fostering an environment where kids can trust, grow, and thrive.
Join the Run
As I train for the Riverbank Run 25K, I invite you to join me in this meaningful endeavor. Your support, whether through donations, spreading the word, or even lacing up your own running shoes, can make a significant difference. Together, we can empower the youth, one step at a time, breaking down barriers and building a more inclusive world of sports.
How Funds Are Used
When you support NSRC, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, you're making a direct impact on young lives. A significant 72% of our funding is channeled into core programming, ensuring that we can offer comprehensive sports opportunities at no cost. Your contribution provides access to year-round, in-person programming which includes training, coaching, and support. It also covers entries to over five races each year, equipping our youth with new running shoes and appropriate clothing. Additionally, your support helps in providing essential nutrition and organizing several family-friendly events. Every dollar you donate is an investment in breaking down barriers to sports and fostering a healthier, more inclusive community.
