What do you do when you are recovering for from your second surgery in two months and cannot romp and play?
Exercise your mind! Shelley is a smart girl and super food motivated, she is definitely mastering this puzzle.
We have raised about 10% of the cost of her recent surgery. Please consider donating and sharing! All donations are tax deductible.
Just as Shelley began healing from her first surgery to repair a vaginal prolapse, she found herself back at the emergency vet facing a second surgery. After weeks of discomfort and pain caused by not being able to empty her bladder, the vets finally determined that she had an infected and abscessed uterine stump (what is left behind after a spay surgery). The uterine stump should be the size of a thumb, hers was the size of a fist. So approximately 3 weeks after her first surgery, poor Shelley had to have a second surgery. She is currently back at her foster home recovering and the vets are cautiously optimistic this is last of her medical concerns.
We were so lucky to have her initial surgery and follow up care ($908.41, $2111.01, and $185.45) covered by donations from amazing Shelley and LLOV followers. We are asking for help again. The second surgery has totaled $3,665.23. As a small, 100% privately funded rescue, this is a huge expense for us and quite frankly is limiting us in rescuing more dogs at this time. All donations are a 501c3 so all donations are tax deductible.
If you do not know Shelley's full story, it has been a long sad one filled with lots of lady part issues and crate living. LLOV pulled Shelley (FKA as Seashell at animal control) when we saw her sad pictures and story of her at animal control with a serious medical condition. She had been in a crate in the shelter for 3 1/2 months waiting to be rescued and have her medical needs addressed. Can you even imagine how uncomfortable she must have been :-( ?
LLOV immediately got her seen and scheduled for surgery. She did well with the first surgery and headed to her foster home to heal. After a few weeks, she seemed to be having a problem emptying her bladder, so back to the vet she went. She was treated for a UTI, which is not all that uncommon in dogs that are crated for long amounts of time. About a week later, she started having diarrhea and was vomiting, so we got her in to the vet once again. At this point, they did a more thorough exam of her abdomen to rule out a blockage and this is when they were able to feel the infected uterine stump. Surgery was scheduled for the following day. Again, she has come out of this surgery well and is back in her foster home recovering.
Through all of this, Shelley remains the sweetest girl. All she wants to do is be pet and snuggled. We just want to get this girl all healed up so she can start looking for her forever home and she can start her much deserved Happily Ever After!
