Over 30 million stray dogs wander the streets of India every day with no home and no idea when their next meal will be. A country with nearly 78 million homeless people does not focus much of their salvation energy on the animals, so not many donations trickle down to the poor strays.
My name is Soumika and I have always felt a personal connection to India because of my family's background and specifically, to its large amount of stray dogs seen frequenting the streets with visible ribs and bruises. Without having the means to save them all myself, I have created the Save the Strays nonprofit organization to raise funds for Help Animals India, an organization based in the US that directs its efforts to underfunded animal shelters and groups in India with strong missions.
Due to the economic differences, your monetary donation pays for even more in India than it would in the US.
