“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” - Jerry Seinfeld
Talking about death? Despite what studies may show and what Seinfeld created a funny bit on, talking about death won’t kill you!
Yet, there is often silence when it comes to Jewish end-of-life traditionsHineni. Many Jews, affiliated and unaffiliated alike, are unfamiliar with the wisdom and comfort Jewish traditions offer at the end of life.
At JADE (Jewish Association for Death Education), we are dedicated to normalizing conversations around death and end-of-life planning. Our webinars serve as accessible teaching tools for individuals and communities, helping to break the taboo surrounding these critical topics.
By funding our educational programming in the Boulder/Denver area, we can expand these essential conversations and ensure that individuals and families have the knowledge and confidence to navigate end-of-life matters with dignity and understanding.
JADE bridges this gap by providing education, guidance, and support around Jewish end-of-life and after-death practices. This project focuses on expanding Jewish death education in the Denver and Boulder communities, equipping local stakeholders—funeral directors, hospice staff, rabbis, chaplains, and cemeterians—with the knowledge and tools to educate and support individuals facing loss.
Help us grow the presence of our Jewish Death Educators in Boulder and Denver so that together we can:
Develop and lead community workshops on Jewish burial and mourning customs, including contemporary questions about cremation and human composting.
Partner with local organizations (hospices, funeral homes, synagogues) to embed Jewish end-of-life education into existing community frameworks.
Provide one-on-one consultations for families navigating end-of-life decisions from a Jewish perspective.
JADE’s unique community-based model ensures that education is localized, culturally relevant, and impactful. We tailor our programming and messaging to meet the culture and needs of each community.
