Pet Food and Care Program
One in four seniors lives alone and one in four feels lonely.
Research shows that seniors with pets are less likely to exhibit depression, report feelings of loneliness and experience illness. In fact, for many pet-owning older adults, their pet is their closest companion and only source of comfort.
This program is generously supported with donations of pet food and funds from individuals, companies, and grants like one that SCI recently received from Meals on Wheels America and PetSmart Charities. We are grateful.
For seniors like Lois and her cat Grace D. this program is the cat’s meow. Lois is grateful, not just for the support, but for the recognition that pets play an important role in all of our lives, regardless of age.
