The Seed Savers Alliance is a collective of free and public Seed Lending Libraries right here in Northern Wisconsin. The purpose is to increase everyone’s access to healthy local food in our region. Our libraries house indigenous, local, sustainably raised and heirloom seed varieties. Please help keep the project going!
Following the model of lending libraries for books, a seed library works pretty much as you’d imagine. Seeds are “checked out” with the intention to plant them in a garden, enjoy the fresh food, and keep a couple of plants in the ground to go to seed. The saved seed is then “returned” to the library. Ideally, in more abundance than what was borrowed. We want to raise $5000 so this public good can keep growing! Funds would create new seed libraries in our communities, make current seed libraries more diverse, host more community educational events, and ensure the longevity of the whole project. Please help out!!
Right now, there are nine seed libraries in our region. That’s pretty good per capita, but our rural status means a lot of people are still underserved. Since nutritional insecurity rates in our communities are higher than the state average, people being able to grow their own food is crucial. As seeds for healthy food are made accessible and free for everyone, this need starts to be alleviated. So please donate!! You can have a major impact on your community this way!
