Second goal- made it!

Update posted 7 years ago

Thanks to everyone for donating to my page! I am truly grateful and have now reached my second goal. 😀  We set ourselves quite a lofty goal of raising $20,000 this year and are now less than $2000 away from meeting that goal. It is people like you supporting each of us that will allow us to continue to impact environmental education in NC and beyond. Thanks!

I came into the world of environmental education later on in my life. More specifically, in graduate school, during an amazing study abroad in Europe where we got to hike through numerous parks with amazing views, a double waterfall, a glacier, and so much more. (Hence the above picture where we hiked right on through a field of sheep grazing!) I had  been in the environmental field for a while but did not really understand how wide ranging of a field it is.

Through an opportunity to present at their conference in 2014 I learned about Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC)- a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build connections, provide professional development, and promote excellence in environmental education. I joined the Board of Directors as the Policy Chair. I know- super exciting!! To know me is to know that I LOVE following the rules, so why not be one of the people who can help write the rules. 😀

I learned a lot about EENC and the field of environmental educators in my two terms as the Policy Chair. I liked it so much that I decided to become President-Elect (my term as President starts in January). This past year EENC was awarded a grant from the North American Association of Environmental Educators to build capacity and I have been the team lead on the project. One of the most exciting steps we are taking is to hire an Executive Director- our very first staff person! We have been working towards this goal for years and it is finally happening.

Please consider donating to my page to help our efforts to propel our organization forward and increase EENC's visibility in the state, region, and country.
