Sharon Elchisco
Transplant Type: Liver
Sharon Elchisco is fighting for her life. In 1974, Sharon underwent a double mastectomy and required a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, she contracted Hepatitis C during the transfusion. Now, Sharon suffers from liver cancer and cirrhosis as a result. Doctors saya liver transplant is critical to her survival.
At this time, Sharon is grateful for the love and support of her family and friends. She is no stranger to difficult times. Sharon recently lost her husband in an auto accident, and she is still adjusting to life without him. She has two adult children, a daughter, Angela, and a son, Shane, who is handicapped and requires around the clock care. Sharon is also a grandmother to two.
Her entire family worries about her health. Sharon looks forward to receiving a transplant that will allow her to feel like her old self again and have a better quality of life. When her health allows, she enjoys working in her flower beds and attending church, but her illness limits her activities. Sharon wants nothing more than to be healthy and have more energy so she can enjoy life with her family. But right now she needs your help. Unfortunately, Sharon’s newlife comes at a veryhigh price.
The average liver transplant costs approximately$740,000, and that’s onlythe beginning.
Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Sharon lives two hours from her transplant center, and has to travel back and forth for appointments. When she receives her transplant, she will have to stay nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
