Sheila Salemi

Transplant Type: Kidney

Sheila Salemi is awaiting a new lease on life. When she was only 17, she was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Unfortunately, it runs in her family, and her mother, grandmother, aunt, and uncle have all passed away from it. Shelia now faces end-stage renal disease, and her illness leaves her tired and takes a toll on her quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Sheila is thankful for the love and support of her husband of 25 years, David, and their family and friends. Sheila and David have five grown children, and six grandchildren, and her illness sometimes prevents her from being as active with her family as she would like to be. She is also very concerned about the health of her children, as they all inherited PKD from her. Sheila enjoys spending time with her family, baking, and making fleece blankets for her loved ones, but her health sometimes limits her activities now. She wants nothing more than to be healthy so she can grow old with her husband and watch her grandchildren grow up and get married. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Sheila still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Sheila’s declining health forced her to stop working seven months ago, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Sheila. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Sheila Salemi” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
