Shining Star Preschool

At Shining Star Preschool, we encourage children 3-6 years old to engage with their peers through play and develop a love of learning. Students are actively engaged through a variety of activities including, but not limited to, building, art, music, make-believe, outdoor recreation, and STEM activities. We believe preschool is the beginning of teaching life skills, how to manage social and emotional feelings, and how to get along with others. 

Our goal is to create spaces where the students feel comfortable trying new things, and where they learn to be confident, independent, and creative thinkers. We believe children learn best in meaningful play, while also learning beginning academics such as writing, and recognizing letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. 

We offer a choice in our community for parents seeking faith and play-based early learning opportunities.

Past donations have supported updating our outdoor activity area, installing shade flags, replacing a storage shed, and building a covered picnic shelter. Last year, funds provided an outdoor playground climbing unit accessible to children with special needs. 

This year's donations will provide indoor play equipment to use in our gym. Funds will also furnish direct access to an internet service. Our current system is not consistent or strong enough to successfully use technology in the classroom. Resources will also support our scholarship fund and general expenses of the preschool. 

Last year, Shining Star Preschool teachers and families donated books, food, and puzzles to local childcare facilities. Students pick up trash around the church property and participate in Lexington parades riding on the UMC float. This year, we plan to provide school supplies to an upstart school in Africa.
