Sidney Myers

Transplant Type: Heart

Sidney Myers is fighting for his life.  He first began experiencing issues with his heart more than 25 years ago; Sidney received his first pacemaker in 1993. By 2002, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Since then, his heart issues have worsened. Earlier this year, he was hospitalized for shortness of breath and fluid on the lungs. Doctors now say a heart transplant is critical to his survival.

During this difficult time, Sidney is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Shemeka, and their family and friends. Sidney has four children, and his entire family worries about his health. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will allow him to be the active husband and father he longs to be. Due to his declining health, Sidney also has trouble enjoying his favorite activities, such as bowling, walking, and playing basketball. Sidney wants nothing more than to get back to his normal lifestyle—going to work, exercising, playing ball with his son, and enjoying life with his family. But, right now, he needs your help.

The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Sidney had to stop working due to his declining health, further adding to his financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Sidney. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Sidney Myers” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
