What is giving Tuesday? Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity for us as a community to give back, at the end of the year.  It was created in 2012, which is the same year Sobriety Foundation was founded.  It was created to counteract the spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, by giving to charities such as Sobriety Foundation.  It did start in the United States, but has grown to be in more than 70 countries.

We at Sobriety Foundation are here to help those that need Sober Living, but we would not be able to do it without donors like you.  Please read about us below.

Founded in 2012, Sobriety Foundation, formerly SOL Scholarship Foundation, helps adults residing in Utah, with substance use disorders with sober living costs through scholarships. Substance misuse is one of the critical public health epidemics of our time. In the 2016 Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Annual Report, it showed that 134,172 adults in Utah needed treatment for drug or alcohol dependence, but the public system could only serve 13,400 individuals. Due to limited funding, we currently can only fund 35% of our applicants. Also, that 10 people die each week in the state of Utah from Overdoses. That one person dies every 5 minutes from overdoses in the nation. Utah is the 4th state in the Nation for Overdose deaths.

Addiction requires long-term, ongoing care. Successful recovery often involves making significant changes to one’s life to create a supportive environment that avoids substance use or misuse cues or triggers. This can involve changing jobs or housing, finding new friends who are supportive of one’s recovery, and engaging in activities that do not involve substance use. When the Foundation awards a recipient, the individual is placed in sober living housing with individuals on the same path which helps them resist relapse and rebuild lives that may have been devastated by years of substance misuse.
