DCAF (Dalmatian Club of America Foundation) is supporting research projects that will study several genetic issues found in the Dalmatian breed. These studies will look for genetic markers linked to deafness, urate stone formation, early onset renal failure, and copper storage disease. All of these are common in the Dalmatian breed and can lead to death. This research is important for maintaining the health of the breed; however, it is a costly endeavor. We hope you will support Chloe and I to raise money for this special dog breed. For the month of October Spotted on the Trail Again fundraiser, which we are joining, will help support this important research.
DCAF (Dalmatian Club of America Foundation) has committed to funding five significant genetic research projects. Two will look for genetic markers that cause deafness in our breed. One will look for genetic markers that cause some Dalmatians to form urate urinary stones which can be fatal. Another is looking for the genetic marker that causes early onset renal failure - a fatal condition. And finally, one looking for the genetic marker for Copper Storage Disease - another fatal condition. We are hopeful that the findings will help us reduce the incidence of these conditions in our breed. However, these studies will put a significant dent in the DCAF account, so the October Spotted on the Trail Again fundraiser is one way we will attempt to replenish the coffers for future research projects.
