“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” —Ezekiel 22:30

Standing in the Gap is a giving circle which raises funds specifically for The Fishing School (TFS), a DC-based nonprofit providing high-quality afterschool, summer, and parent engagement programs for over 400 students in underserved communities.

TFS was founded in prayer, sustained by faith, and blessed by God. On more than one occasion in his life, TFS founder Tom Lewis has turned to prayer for guidance. The answers and vision he received led him eventually to open The Fishing School and guide its growth for many years. Current Executive Director Leo Givs found that prayer led him, too, to TFS. Both men feel blessed to have made such a difference in so many young lives. TFS is seeking others who will Stand in the Gap for TFS.

Funds raised support instruction of our Life Skills curriculum. Weekly activities give students the skills and knowledge they need to not only succeed in school but well beyond. From Perseverance to Conflict Resolution to Service to Others, these lessons will better prepare our students to be leaders, learners, and productive members of society.

The Fishing School prepares public school elementary and middle school students for success in high school and life by improving their academic performance and life skills; and engaging them and their parents in intensive, multi-year, and research-based out of school time and parent engagement programs and activities.
