Stefanie Forston Moffett
Transplant Type: Lung
Update: Stefanie received a transplant on April 16, 2019!
Stefanie Moffett is fighting for her life. In 2015, she was diagnosed with end-stage interstitial lung disease. Since then, she’s been in and out of the hospital many times. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of lung disease. Her lung function has declined, and she now requires the assistance of supplemental oxygen in order to breathe. Doctors say a lung transplant is critical for her survival. Before she can receive a transplant, her transplant center is requiring her to raise funds.
During such a challenging time, Stefanie is thankful for the love and support of her husband of 30 years, Randy, and their family and friends. Stefanie and Randy have four children ranging in age from 18 to 29, and four grandchildren. Her illness causes a lot of worry for her entire family, and Stefanie is unable to be the active wife, mother, and grandmother she longs to be. Her declining health causes her to miss out on family events, and that is difficult for her.
Stefanie looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free her from supplemental oxygen and allow her to have a normal life again. Simple day to day activities are difficult for Stefanie right now and she can’t wait to be able to do those tasks without getting out of breath. She wants nothing more than to be able to take part in family activities, continue to help her grandkids learn to cook, and go on family vacations. Most of all, she looks forward to being able to share her testimony of her health struggles and how she came through them. But right now, she needs your help.
The average lung transplant costs more than $785,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the cost of the transplant, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Stefanie lives 168 miles from her transplant center, and has to travel back and forth for appointments. When she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Stefanie’s declining health prevents her from working, further adding to her financial difficulties.
