HELP IMIRE ACHIEVE OUR MOST IMPORTANT GOAL

The Past

In 1987, during a period of Zimbabwe’s worst poaching, Imire was named an Intensive Protective Zone for rhino. We were awarded custodianship of 7 orphaned black rhino, the last left in the Zambezi Valley. From then we began our pioneering black rhino breeding programme.

Nearly four decades later our work continues and many of their descendants are still protected by Imire.

Our goal has always been to ensure these rhinos return to their original home. In the 1990s Imire successfully released 11 rhinos into Matusadona.

Tragically, as illegal poaching ravaged wildlife areas throughout Africa, all the released rhinos, their progeny, and the dream of repopulation, were lost.

The Present

Our mission continued unwavering, despite these seemingly insurmountable challenges. The shining light of returning rhino to the Zambezi valley, where they belong, as our beacon of hope.

Today, through the restoration of Matusadona National Park by African Parks and ZimParks, that vision is bright and clear once again. This is not a quick fix. This vision is a long-term commitment. A generational dream that needs the help and support of like-minded people who also see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The Future

Each rhino calf on Imire holds critical genetic heritage from the past, and the promise of a future where their species can recover and thrive.

Each one represents something extraordinary:

  • A species refusing to disappear
  • A gene pool growing stronger
  • A community choosing protection over exploitation

Sustainable long term rhino conservation is about:

  • Protecting breeding rhino, both black and white
  • Safeguarding genetic diversity
  • Securing habitat and ecosystems
  • Funding trained rangers
  • Supporting veterinary intervention
  • Investing in long-term land stewardship

Rhino survival is guaranteed by long term, sustained and reliable protection.

Your support helps us:

  •  Maintain and upgrade high-security infrastructure
  • Fund full-time anti-poaching ranger teams
  • Power solar electric fencing and surveillance systems
  • Provide veterinary monitoring and emergency response
  • Protect critical breeding territories
  • Strengthen community partnerships that reduce wildlife conflict

Your donations translate directly into boots on the ground, batteries in fences, eyes on cameras, and trained hands ready when needed.

The calves you see today are not just being protected. They are being prepared to go home.
