PAD is building a new approach to community safety and wellness in the City of Atlanta by providing an alternate to police response through the City's 311 line. We are keeping people out of jail every day, and reducing police involvement altogether, by responding more effectively to people's needs related to mental health, substance use recovery, housing, and basic survival.

In 2021, we began providing alternate response services citywide, relying on $1.5M in City operating dollars and (still) raising $3M from private sources. This budget funds five 2-person Harm Reduction response teams, an outreach team, ten Care Navigators who provide long term case management, and staff who conduct housing coordination, community engagement, and diversion training for law enforcement. It also provides almost $1M in direct services for people we work with -- paying for emergency hotel stays, housing assistance, food, transportation, and other direct basic needs.

In 2022, we need to hire more responders, more care navigators, and provide more direct supports in order to divert people away from jail and toward actual solutions. But we won't be able to do it without a dedicated city funding stream for alternate responses. PAD is one of the first organizations in our city providing alternatives to police response -- but there is a need for many more!  Together we can build out a true continuum of care which can respond to a wide variety of concerns with the specific resources that can most effectively address those concerns.

But we need the public investment to do so, and a process for organizations like ours to contract with the city to provide these critical, innovative alternate responses. We need your help to uplift this message and make it a priority for the incoming Mayoral administration and City Council. Will you make a donation to PAD as a way to show your support for public investment in our approach to community safety and wellness? Donate in any amount today, and then comment on social media to share why YOU believe your tax dollars should be invested in a dedicated city funding stream for alternate responses
