Millions of underprivileged children in India are out of school and forced into child labor in order to earn a single meal in a day. The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Akshaya Patra, the world's largest NGO-run mid-day meal program, serves fresh, nutritious meals daily to over 1.3 million children in rural India. For many children this is the only complete meal of the day. The school lunch program creates an incentive for children to go to school and stay in school so they may thrive as adults.
Surya was founded in rural North India and we are very conscious of the health and educational challenges in such areas. Access to quality education is critical for the sustenance of the communities we work with and, like Akshaya Patra, we want EVERY child to have access to food and education.
With your support, we hope to make a significant positive impact to children and communities in rural India.
