From Puerto Rico, as we were leaving town on our last day in PR, we saw a pack of dogs by the side of the road coming out of the brush. We stopped to see if they would take food from us. Two ran right up and even took food from our hands as they were so hungry, although were too shy to let us pet them. We saw that one was a female and she seemed most agreeable. As we did not have a leash or tie in the car, we had to get creative. So we detached a purse strap and fashioned it into a leash. Mimi continued to eat from our hands and slowly allowed us to pet her....and after three tries we were able to slip the strap over her head and put her in our car. Once there she wagged her tail and acted as if she'd been waiting on us to pick her up.

Mimi is positive for HW, E.Canis, Lyme, and Anaplasma

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.
