Drag Story Hour- Arizona is a collaboration of many people spread across the state of Arizona. What was initially planned as a single story hour in 2019 grew to be an organization that aims to support diversity and inclusivity in early literacy. Drag Story Hour- Arizona has had the opportunity to collaborate with fantastic organizations such as AzTYPO and Virtual Arizona Pride and has sparked joy to readers of all types.

As the Arizona chapter of Drag Queen Story Hour, DSH-Az produces story hour events that capture the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.

DSH-Az has produced in-person story hours in venues ranging from bookstores to art museums to hair salons. In February of 2020, we were invited for the first time to present a story hour at a public library in Arizona, the Copper Queen Library in Bisbee. But many public libraries are still hesitant to present events such as this, which is what makes DSH-Az necessary.

And since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, DSH-Az has continued its mission by producing virtual story hours, as well as roundtable discussions and author talks. In the future, we hope to continue producing both in-person and online events.

Our events, both online and in-person, are always presented free of charge. 100% of donations will go back into producing more story hours by allowing us to pay performers, buy materials, and advertise events.
