Brave End of Year Giving Campaign!

Friends, family, and internet homies,

In 2018, I joined the Board of Directors of Brave Initiatives, a 4-year-old, bold, dynamic non-profit based in Chicago.  Brave was born from a belief that something as influential as technology should be inclusive of all perspectives. As such, their inspiring mission is to enable girls from low-income, marginalized communities to gain life-changing access to software. Brave is teaching girls to code!

Seven years ago, I was a lost but curious student figuring out the age-old question of what I wanted to do. Although a California native, I didn't grow up with stories of Silicon Valley, of the power of technology, or of the possibility of software. By chance, I happened to stumble into the world of computer science (story for another time), and learned to code.  Doing so has been the biggest, best fluke of my life: it has completely transformed how I view the world, the ways in which I understand possibility and access, and the ways in which my own future is filled with more possibility.

As the year comes to a close, I can think of no greater gift than the gift of possibility, particularly to those from communities who are given so little of it. To that end, I'm asking for donations to Brave. A small donation can go a long way for the lives of girls who have so much to offer to the world.  Are you willing to share the gift of possibility?
