For the 17 million people around the world like me who are living with Cerebral Palsy, the challenge of getting from place to place is something that at times can be simply exhausting. For many of them, the thrill of swimming and biking is something they may never come to know.
Children who are diagnosed with CP are likely to experience life’s milestones differently and this may mean they don’t follow the same path as other children. Even still, children with cerebral palsy become adults with cerebral palsy...and the challenges we face do not disappear. In fact, the physical challenges of Cerebral Palsy can intensify with age, frequently resulting in arthritis, increased spasticity, fatigue, and the loss of strength and mobility.
This year I am competing in the Cassadaga Man Aquabike Race on September 4, 2021. The race will consist of a 1.2 mile swim around the perimeter of the Lower Lake of the Cassadaga Lakes followed by a 56 mile bike course filled the challenging rolling hills and fast curves of the Chautauqua Ridge.
Footsteps of WNY, Inc. is a 100% volunteer Western New York based not for profit organization that provides charitable assistance to individuals with Cerebral Palsy so they can obtain the therapy and equipment they need and that insurance does not provide
So many athletes have been stepping up for others in Western New York living with Cerebral Palsy ....It's my turn to meet their challenges with a challenge of my own. 57.2 miles for those like me living with CP!
