Good Goats are Happy and Healthy

Update posted 2 years ago

I visited the school and the goats January 14 and the goats are healthy and happy. The students are engaged with the Good Goat Project and we will begin breeding in March. A second round of fund raising will commence in February to fund construction of a second goat house and to purchase cheese making equipment and storage facilities. Thank you again for all your support and enthusiasm!

OBJECTIVE

  • We are looking for support to establish a goat farm for milk and cheese products.
  • We are purchasing 12 goats from Thailand Department of Livestock Development.
  • The kids’ parents are from France and the goat breed is Saanen.
  • We will be transporting them to our school in August and preparing them for breeding and milk production.
  • It is proposed to produce goat cheese which is a popular delicacy in Thailand.

FARMING & PRODUCTION

  • We are providing 2,500 SQM. for the goat pens and grazing area surrounding the pens.
  • An additional 4,000 SQM. is provided for goat feed cultivation. This is located close to the existing organic farm.
  • We will supplement the feed stock with nutrients and food production by-products which contain the necessary ingredients for a balanced diet, higher yield and enhanced flavour of the cheese.
  • The facility will include separate pens initially for 10 female goats and 2 male goats.
  • Pens for goats with aliments will also be provided.
  • The pens are elevated for ease of cleaning and the facility will include an area for milking, milk storage and cheese production with aging rooms.
  • The pens have large overhanging roof for shade.
  • Each goat can produce up to 6 litres of milk per day - this capacity can increase further with natural and organic dietary enhancements.
  • 10 litres of goat milk is required to manufacture 1 KG. of goat cheese.
  • We anticipate full production in 18 months once we have our first kids’ offspring.
