Timbo Epling
Transplant Type: Liver
Update: Timbo received a transplant on March 5, 2020!
Timbo Epling is fighting for his life. In 2019, he was diagnosed with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) which is the most severe form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of liver disease. His illness takes a toll on his quality of life and leaves him exhausted. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Timbo is grateful for the love and support of his wife of 28 years, Vera, and their family and friends. Timbo and Vera have one daughter who is a college senior. His declining health prevents him from being the active husband and father he used to be. His illness has changed his disposition and it is difficult for him and his family. Timbo looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to feel like himself again. He enjoys spending time with his family, watching television, and mowing his yard, but his health prevents him from being active now. Timbo wants nothing more than to be healthy again so he can have a normal life with his family. But right now he needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $812,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and expensive anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Timbo lives 168 miles from his transplant center and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When he receives his transplant he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Timbo is still working, although it is becoming increasingly difficult. When he receives his transplant, he will be off work for an extended time, further adding to his financial burdens.
