The Truth About Truancy

Truancy and chronic absenteeism affect more than just a student's grades. Missing too much school is a known indicator of external forces such as housing instability, substance abuse in the family, food insecurity, and untreated medical conditions. These factors negatively impact a child and contribute to their lack of school attendance. While TIP has been able to touch almost 11,000 students in Fulton County, there is still work to be done!

The Solution: Helping the Whole Child

Helping the whole child is the key to increasing attendance and opportunities for success. From housing instability to mental health needs, our students and their families face a wide range of challenges that require holistic support. Once these needs are addressed, the child and family are able to reestablish a pattern of consistent school attendance.  While the causes of each student's absenteeism are individual to the child and family, the solution of providing support to the whole child remains the same.

TIP’s Programs

Through our Juvenile Court,  Early Intervention, Behavioral Health, and Volunteer and Training Programs, TIP provides legal advocacy, compassionate family support, referrals to behavioral and mental health services, and outreach and incentive initiatives that encourage and lead our students back into the classroom.  Check out the videos below of TIP staff and volunteers discussing more about how your donation will #HelpThe Whole Child!
