It was about 2 years after I had moved to Alexandria that I stumbled across Convergence. I was attending an open mic night held in the Convergence Lab (a very funky artist space for theater groups, musicians, and creatives of all kinds). Something about the vibe of the place stirred my curiosity and longing. It reminded me of the coffee house where I'd hung out and performed during college, a place percolating with hope and creative energy.
There were several Convergence brochures scattered about at this open mic and they described a community committed to exploring artistic and creative desires along with spiritual needs and questions. This was a cocktail I could not resist, and soon I was snooping around Convergence on a regular basis (attending artist openings, open mics, performances, and services).
Eventually, over several years, and after much snooping, I joined the Convergence community, which for me has been about meeting, and giving and receiving support from others who—even if they do not consider themselves artists—are eager to be in touch with their own creativity an artistic impulses. This has given me the courage to move forward with integrating my love of music with my love of helping people (as expressed in my work as a psychotherapist) to develop a personal vision of a world where connection, creativity, and beauty revitalize the painful places of our lives.
Please consider donating to Convergence to help us continue our mission of supporting artists, creativity, and the arts, in all the ways these invigorate and inspire us to growth and healing.
