Tolisha Solis

Transplant Type:  Double Lung

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Tolisha Solis is fighting for her life. She has been diagnosed with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure due to COVID-19, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and heart failure due to severe lung disease. Her condition has continued to worsen, and doctors say a double lung transplant is critical to her survival. While awaiting her transplant, she relies on an oxygen tank for every breath.

This has been a difficult time for Tolisha, as she is used to being much more independent and active. She is thankful for her husband, Warren, her seven children, family, and friends. She wishes that they did not need to be so concerned about her health but is grateful for their love and support. Tolisha has been in the hospital since her diagnosis and has not been able to see her children in months. The separation has been extremely difficult for Tolisha. She looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to liver her life with as few limitations as possible and be healthy enough to return to work. Most importantly, Tolisha cannot wait to spend time with her whole family again, but right now, she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Tolisha’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average double lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that is only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Tolisha must travel more than 90 miles to reach her transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When she receives her transplant, Tolisha and her husband will need to stay near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve Tolisha’s growing burden of expenses. The National Foundation for Transplants has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 35 years.
