While Lilly, an 8 year old American Staffordshire Terrier who is available for adoption, is quickly approaching her 1 year mark at EBHS, we continue to brainstorm ideas on how we can showcase this lovely girl. We feel the biggest hurdle to adoption for her is the monthly cost of her care. Lilly has a medical diagnosis of arthritis, a severe thickening and medial buttnessing of stifles bilaterally which is the result of an ACL rupture and repair. The medications she takes to help ease her of pain and discomfort are rimadyl 2 times per day and fish oil and a hip and joint supplement once a day.  While she used to limp quite often pre medication, we have noticed a significant improvement in her mobility since starting this medication and supplements.

In addition to this, Lilly has some behavior issues that made it difficult for staff to work with her at all upon first being returned to EBHS in September 2019. We found a good combination of behavior modification drugs that help calm her down. While no one is perfect, the onboarding of these medications allow staff to work with her much easier now where it is less stressful for all of us. She is on Gabapentin and Trazadone.

Lastly, Lilly suffers from chronic ear infections. She does not let staff clean them, so each month she has to be sedated for an ear cleaning. In addition to working on desensitizing her to her ears being touched and cleaned, we are going to try an injection that will hopefully prolong the frequency of her ear cleanings and thus, lowering stress. We are also exploring switching her to a novel protein diet as her ear infections may be linked to a food allergy.

Totaling up these necessary medications, supplements and sedation for Lilly, her cost of care per month averages $ 270 per month. (If the injection is successful, this would lower her care by about $90 per month.)

We recognize this is a big monthly expense for families. In hopes to help ease the financial pressure of adopting her, we looking for help in fundraising 6-12 months ($1,620 - $3,240) of medical expenses for Lily’s future forever family. Without this barrier, we hope she goes home sooner.

While we will not be making this fundraiser public via Social Media, please feel free to share the link with those you know.

Thank you for your well wishes, thoughts and contributions – it all makes a difference in Lilly’s Happy Tail!
