Tracey Johnston

Transplant Type: Kidney

Tracey Johnston is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2012, she learned that her kidney function was rapidly declining and she was in stage-3 kidney failure. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of kidney disease. Since her diagnosis, her kidney function has continued to decline, and she now faces end-stage kidney failure. Tracey is on dialysis, which takes a toll on her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Tracey is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. She is a single mother of three children and her illness causes them a lot of worry. Her children and siblings have come together to help her during her time of need, and it has brought their family even closer together. Tracey looks forward to receiving a transplant that will restore her energy and free her from dialysis. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, going for walks, swimming, bowling, and doing DIY crafts—but her illness limits her activities now. Tracey wants nothing more than to be healthy again so she can live an active life, enjoy time with her loved ones, travel without restrictions, and feel more like herself again. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Tracey still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Tracey’s declining health forced her to stop working, further adding to her financial burdens.
