In good times, trivia nights are a fun way to support local bars and restaurants. In pandemic times, let's use a virtual trivia night to support industry workers.
Servers, bartenders, and others in the restaurant industry are some of the worst affected in this pandemic. Why? Because in "normal" times they have to rely on tips to make minimum wage (which is not a living wage) and wage theft is all too common (Doordash, Domino's, and your fave dive bar all do it).
So now in pandemic times, tens of thousands of people have lost their income and have very little to fall back on. Worse yet, many restaurant workers are immigrants, which means they have been EXCLUDED from receiving stimulus checks.
It's outrageous. So let's channel some of that rage into action.
All money donated will go towards the Jobs With Justice Worker Solidarity Fund. JWJ is a national nonprofit that helps create a more equitable economy by advocating for long-term structural changes and organizing workers to bargain for benefits like living wages and paid sick leave.
Because of COVID-19, JWJ has started the Worker Solidarity Fund, which will give out cash grants to workers in the restaurant industry, among others. In states like California, JWJ is prioritizing immigrant workers who face even more obstacles.
With your help, servers, bartenders, and BoH staff will be able to stay in their homes, put food on the table, and afford healthcare. Please give what you can!
