Transplant Type: Double Lung
Troy Brown is awaiting a new lease on life. In 1992, he was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His lung function has decreased over time, and he now requires the assistance of supplemental oxygen in order to breathe. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to his survival. Before he can receive a transplant, his transplant center is requiring him to raise funds.
During this difficult time, Troy is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Peggy, and their family and friends. Troy has two sons and five grandchildren, and his illness prevents him from being the active husband, father, and grandfather he longs to be. His family worries a lot about his health. Troy looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to breathe freely without supplemental oxygen. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and rock hunting, but his health prevents him from taking part in those activities now. Troy wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can enjoy life with his family, resume the activities he once enjoyed, and live his life to the fullest. But right now, he needs your help.
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Troy faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Troy lives 137 miles from his transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Troy’s declining health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
