We are raising money for a service dog to help Ben maintain independence as his DMD progresses.

$1,170

raised by 22 people

$17,000 goal

Ben was diagnosed at the age of 3 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting disorder causing loss of muscle function, eventually impacting the heart and lungs.  Ben is now 9 years old and recently began using a wheelchair for longer distances and for keeping up with peers at school.  As his DMD progresses, he will lose independence in many areas of daily living.  He is hopeful to receive a service dog in the next few years that will help him with some daily tasks so that he can maintain as much independence as possible.  We have been accepted by 4 Paws for Ability to receive a service dog.  As the cost of raising and training a service dog is between $40,000 and $60,000, 4 Paws asks recipients to offset the cost by raising $17,000.  The sooner our money is raised, the sooner Ben can get on the 2 year waiting list for his new best friend.  We greatly appreciate any contribution you can make.  Thank you!
