UBALDO AND LAURA VARELA | Ecuador 2020

Hello dear friend!  

Not even two months into our marriage and we are excited to share how GOD is calling us to serve on a short-term mission assignment.  On March 13-24, 2020, we plan to support a foster care ministry located in Sucua, Ecuador.  We’re joining a mission team from Oak Pointe Church in Novi MI, to support Fundacion Rescate.  Our team’s goal is to help finish Casa Rescate, a place to provide a safe temporary environment to rescue, rebuild, and restore children, youth and families trapped in abusive situations. The Casa Rescate foster home includes living quarters for the children, a family counseling office, an outdoor kitchen for teaching and socializing, and ample outdoor recreation space.  Local officials (of Sucua, Ecuador) say that 2-3 children a day need to be taken out of their home due to abuse, neglect, parenting and/or marital issues and currently have very few options of support. 

We feel Jesus challenges us to follow in His example today, when Jesus went to the overlooked people in the villages, taught people, shared good news, healed diseases, showed compassion, and comforted the people who were harassed.  We desire that this opportunity would then encourage you to become part of this mission and share in these plans of God.

Our first request is that you would prayerfully support us.  We need prayers for safe travel through jungles and mountains of Ecuador, for designing the ancillary construction buildings and procuring the supplies, and for completing the work that needs to be done efficiently, to name a few.   Additionally, we ask you would consider partnering with us through a donation of $20, $40, $50, or more, as you feel led, toward our mission costs.  We trust God is the one who provides those willing and generous to accomplish His plans.  Our goal is $5,000 to cover both of us for our 10-day mission trip that includes airfare, food & lodging, and purchasing/transporting our building supplies.
