Victoria Smith

Transplant Type: Heart/Kidney

Victoria Smith is awaiting a new lease on life. She was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) several years ago. Unfortunately, it runs in her family, and her dad suffers from it as well. When Victoria was 15, she began to have issues with her blood pressure, and it has plagued her ever since then. When she was pregnant, she delivered her daughter six weeks early due to pre-eclampsia. Her kidney function has rapidly declined since that time, and doctors now say a kidney transplant is critical. In the meantime, Victoria is on dialysis, which leaves her tired and takes a toll on her quality of life.

During this difficult time, Victoria is thankful for the love and support of her boyfriend, family, and friends. She has a 13-year-old daughter, and her health prevents her from being the active mother she longs to be. Victoria used to enjoy playing clarinet, playing tennis, swimming, and outdoor activities, but her illness prevents her from being active now. She wants nothing more than to be healthy so she can have a more active life with her daughter and return to work. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, Victoria still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Victoria lives 65 miles from her transplant center, and has to travel frequently back and forth for appointments. When she receives her transplant, she will have to stay nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Victoria’s health and dialysis schedule forced her to stop working, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Victoria. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Victoria Smith” on the memo line.
