As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our city in unprecedented ways, Horizons Atlanta scholars are disproportionately at risk. Already confronting opportunity gaps, this year they faced added threats of both COVID-19 and summer learning loss from the months spent out of school, a combination that could lead to insurmountable academic deficits going forward.

Thanks to our many supporters, Horizons Atlanta met this challenge head on this past summer with our first ever virtual programs. “Horizons at Home” delivered a blended model of live instruction and offline work that included food support, social emotional learning, enrichment activities, and academics that our scholars, parents, and teachers all found engaging. Together, we built communities of care and proved that virtual instruction can be fun.

But this fall, Horizons Atlanta recognizes that our work is far from over. To combat the heightened challenges that our scholars face, we have launched ambitious, enhanced school-year programs that include individualized tutoring, community building, and social emotional support. As we continue evolving to meet the demands of this new normal, we need your help more than ever before. When you give this GAgives Day, you help ensure that some of Atlanta’s most vulnerable young people have access to the opportunities they need to weather this pandemic and emerge ready to realize their full potential and change the world.

Horizons Atlanta is a transformational, tuition-free six-week summer learning and enrichment program that supports students from underserved communities throughout their K–12 academic careers. We believe that all children, regardless of background, should have the same opportunity to make a positive impact on their community.
