The picture featured in this post is of three women, Jewish, Christian and Muslim who made a commitment to travel together on one of ICI's World Pilgrimages. They created a bond of friendship that has lasted beyond their travels. They are just one example of how ICI is creating an opportunity for people to come together across religious, ethnic, and racial lines to learn more about each other and their faith traditions. It's one step towards changing a society that sometimes seem to thrive on our disconnection. However, we believe that we are better together.
Since 2002, Interfaith Community Initiatives (formerly Community Institute) has been reshaping the Atlanta community by connecting people who may have never met. Jew has met Muslim, Public Safety Officers have meditated with Buddhists, and blacks and whites have traveled together in pursuit of the knowledge of the other. It is only when we come together that we begin to see our commonalities and appreciate our differences.
This work is done through our World Pilgrims, Immersion Experience and Inter-spiritual Contemplative programs. Since 2002, more than 500 persons have traveled on 27 ICI World Pilgrimages. In the Metropolitan Atlanta our Immersion Experience has provided hundreds of people with an intercultural experience that takes them into the worship spaces to learn more about the traditions of their neighbors and our Inter-spiritual Contemplative group invites people to come and learn what the silence has to teach.
ICI's work is important. It makes a difference in each individual's life and reaches out to touch our communities, country and world. Most of the administration, coordination of programs, speaking to and engaging groups and organizations who want to know more about interfaith is done by volunteers, and a great working board.
But we need more, more believers, more activists and more contributors like you who can help our organization grow and become a bedrock in our great city.
