 What we’re doing 

Imagine if our government reflected  the values and diversity of our nation. Imagine if our most dynamic and innovative recent graduates chose careers in government at the same rates that they went into private industry.

At Govern for America, this is our dream. And we’re making it real. 

This fall, we are launching the Govern for America flagship program — a 2-year paid fellowship for the next-generation of public sector leaders. We recruit them, train them, and connect them to high-impact roles in state governments across the country.

                                                       Why it matters

• 40% of all state employees are eligible to retire within the next 5 years. States have no plan to replace this lost talent. 

• States matter...a lot. In 2017 alone, almost 19,000 laws were enacted at the state level, compared to 102 at the federal level. From healthcare to education to criminal justice and more, states are where government takes action. 

• 94% of Millennials and Gen Z want to have a career that “makes a difference,” but they don’t see government as the place to make an impact. We need to change their perception if we want our government to change for the better.

We’re raising $25,000 to recruit the inaugural Govern for America Fellowship class. With more than 500 pre-applicants from our 80+ partner colleges, we know there are students raising their hands to step up and serve.  Your gift will help us build on this momentum and cover recruiting costs, marketing materials, and the initial stages of our fellows' training program.
