Karen's Dove House Fundraiser

This is something that hits close to home for me. I am a different person for it. Domestic violence changes every relationship in your life, even ones you thought could never be affected by outside forces. I am still rebuilding relationships with my family and friends. 

One of the reasons I love what Dove House does is that they really are advocates for victims of both domestic violence and sexual assault. There are advocates that accompany the clients to court and help them through the legal process, there are advocates that connect clients to community resources and there is also a safe place to go if a woman (or man) and her children need shelter. There are also therapists available. These resources weren't available to me and I wonder what would have happened had they been. 

I don't volunteer just to help others, although that is a big part of it; I volunteer to keep myself grateful, to keep myself on track and know that I am doing the right things in my life. I volunteer to remind myself that I am never going back.
