Voices that inspire. Issues that matter.

The Westminster Town Hall Forum provides unique opportunities to explore the key issues of our day from an ethical perspective. In just an hour, our guest speakers will expand your mind, inform your views, maybe even change your perspective.

History

In 1980, members of Westminster Presbyterian Church launched the Westminster Town Hall Forum. Watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox was the first guest speaker, and the Reverend Donald Meisel moderated. Since then, more than 250 speakers have addressed Forum audiences, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel, Thomas Friedman, Cornel West, David McCullough, Marcus Borg, Marian Wright Edelman, Sue Monk Kidd, David Brooks, Salman Rushdie, Gwen Ifill, and Bryan Stevenson.

A guiding theme for the Forum was established: Voices of Conscience – Key Issues in Ethical Perspective. To ensure that the Forum included a broad range of ideas and opinions, the founders determined that forums would be nonpartisan, nonsectarian, and free and open to the public. Those basis tenets remain essential components of the Forum today.

General information

Town Hall Forums are held eight to ten times a year at noon or 7 pm. A forum is one hour in length and consists of a speaker presentation followed by a Q&A with questions submitted by the audience. Local musicians perform a half hour before each forum, and a public reception follows the presentation. Forums are held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nicollet Mall and 12th Street in downtown Minneapolis.

We depend upon your financial support in our efforts to keep this forum free and open to the public.
