Every year in the spring, Wharton and Penn Design students participate in Rebuilding Together Philadelphia’s (RTP) "Block Build."
While the annual "Block Build" has been canceled, the funds we are raising for the build are now more important than ever.
During the planned 2-day event, RTP staff and volunteers provide essential repairs and renovations to make Philadelphia families safe and healthy in their homes.
- RTP homeowners have incomes of no more than 80% of area median income (AMI).
- Over half of our homeowners earn 30% or less of AMI ($26,200 for a family of four)
- With a poverty rate of 26% and over 12% of Philadelphians living in deep poverty, RTP services are needed now more than ever.
Although many low-income homeowners spend as much as 50% of their limited income on home repairs, the cost of maintaining an aging home is more than many families can manage.
- With thousands of people on the City’s Basic Systems Repair waiting list, there is clearly a dearth of resources available for the low-income homeowner.
RTP plans to complete the home repairs as planned using their in-house construction teams and sub-contractors, and your donation will be put directly towards funding these repairs.
- The vast majority of the homeowners are elderly with chronic health conditions, and RTP's repairs will help ensure their safety and health while self-quarantined.
- Your donation to RTP will help offset the costs of building materials and contracted labor for this work.
